MPhil/PhD by Research

Research conference

Staffordshire University Business School offer MPhil and PhD awards in Business, Management, Economics and Education related fields including Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Development, Entrepreneurship and Sub-Regional Regeneration.

The Faculty currently has around 40 students who study full-time, part-time or by blended learning.  These students share and contribute to a vibrant research community that operates at the cutting edge of knowledge.  Blended learning students are considered part-time and are required to spend between 3 and 4 months on campus in each academic year. Study is by means of research under the supervision of mentors experienced in the appropriate field and will normally take 3 years as a full time student and 5 years if studying part time.  Your period of study will be clearly structured with milestone targets set throughout.

Your work will be assessed by the submission of a final thesis and by oral examination.

Entry Requirements

  • Direct PhD – Normally a Masters level qualification in a related discipline.
  • MPhil – A minimum of upper second class degree in a related discipline.

Currently we only have a scholarship programme for students who come from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro.  We have no other funding available at present.

Professional Doctorates

DBA

In 2011 Staffordshire University will be offering a Doctorate in Business Administration award.  This is a 4 year part time course combining taught modules in the first two years and research under supervision for the final two years.

Professional Doctorates carry an equivalent standing to a PhD but with greater emphasis on practical experience and professional development rather than theory.  This is an ideal choice for professionals who wish to enhance their professional and educational standing.

Your work will be assessed by the submission of a final thesis and by oral examination.

Entry requirements:

  • Either an appropriate Masters level qualification in a relevant field and at least 5 years senior management experience either pre-or post-Masters.
