Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
What are Knowledge Transfer Partnerships?

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are designed to help private sector businesses, public sector organisations and third sector organisations improve their competitiveness and / or quality of delivery, by accessing academic knowledge, expertise and resources within Staffordshire University.
A KTP involves a partnership between a business or organisation (the business partner) and the University (the knowledge base partner). The partnership also involves one or more recently qualified persons (Associates) to facilitate the transfer of knowledge under the supervision of the business and knowledge base partners.
Many local companies have already discovered how Staffordshire University and graduates can benefit their business with specialist skills, knowledge, enthusiasm and a fresh perspective.

How are KTPs funded?

KTPs are part-funded by the Government via the Technology Strategy Board and 18 other funding organisations, including Research Councils and other Government agencies recognising the importance of knowledge transfer to economic development and wealth creation. The grant rate depends upon the size of the company / partner organisation, normally it will be 60% for a micro business or SME and 40% for a large enterprise. The typical annual costs are around £17,000 for an SME and £26,000 for a larger company or organisation.
The partner organisation pays the balance of the costs (i.e. the proportion of the partnership budget not covered by the Government-funded grant) to the knowledge base partner in instalments after the grant has been deducted.
Further advice about the costs of KTPs and about the funding available is available from the KTP Office.
