  • This could include service users and carers, qualified and unqualified health and social care staff, teachers, police and fire officers, charity workers, benefit and welfare staff, criminal justice staff, emergency care staff.

What it's about

The core theme of the module is the prevention of aggressive and violent behaviour. Underlying theories of violence and aggression are explored. Triggers and contextual factors, including client, staff, intervention and environmental characteristics are discussed.

The module includes the development of self awareness, as a key to understanding the relationship between interpersonal skills and behaviour. The role of interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy in managing aggression and violence is included.

What you do

The module is assessed via a 25-minute individual student seminar presentation, focusing on an incident of aggressive or violent behaviour.

Where next?

The module is an option module in a number of University awards, including the University Diploma in Mental Health, Diploma in Nursing, BSc (Hons) Clinical Practice and BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies awards.  In addition, you may be able to use this module to contribute to a qualification you are studying elsewhere

Course Start:

This module will next be delivered in academic year 2010/11, in term 2.  Term 2 starts w/c January 10th 2011 and runs up to and including w/c April 11th 2011

Course Length:

12 Weeks

Attendance:

The module will run on 6 Tuesday mornings, 9am - 12 pm.

Six sessions are taught sessions and require attendance; six sessions are self directed and students are required to work online .This self directed work is well supported by the use of web based learning materials.
