Advice Work and Law (Diploma)
University Diploma
What it's about
This award provides a rigorous education for those wishing to work in the advice giving industry. Students study for the Diploma in Advice Work and Law at Levels 1 and 2, and on completing the diploma can study for a further period to achieve either a degree in applied social studies or a degree in law.
Teaching takes a variety of forms including lectures, seminars involving student-led papers, workshops, student learning materials and simulations. Assessment methods are similarly varied and include essays, skills projects and examinations with seen and unseen papers.
At level 2 there is a 50 day work placement in an advice giving agency. The advice giving sector is growing rapidly. As well as Citizens Advice Bureaux there are voluntary advice centres, neighbourhood offices and highly specialised advice-giving agencies.
Students may also choose to work in the more traditional legal settings for which the LLB is an appropriate preparation.
