Our graduates

“The 'Media Production' team are so dedicated and passionate for their students to do well and this really helped me to push myself and do the best I could. There is a definite feeling of belonging to a family and community of filmmakers at Staffs and I will always hold on to the words and teachings of those who influenced me during the three years. The industry standard that I have been taught has helped get my work noticed, the films that I made whilst studying there have continued to gain international success. My film 'Dust' has just been selected to be screened for the Tri-Citites International Fantastic Film Festival with screenings in Chicago, Pasco and Seattle. Whilst my film from my second year 'We Were Here' (2010) has just been nominated for its second Cinematography Award with upcoming UnderWire Film Festival in London 2011.”

What it's about
The creative industries continue to expand and offer new opportunities for employment in the field of advertising, marketing and commercial film/video production. The course aims to develop your creative and technical skills, business acumen and personal and practical communication skills. The emphasis of the award is on creative problem solving and people skills. You will gain experience of media production using industry-standard digital production equipment and projects will be based on
client briefs.
What you do

The course emphasises producing creative film/video solutions to a predetermined client brief and a specific deadline. You will develop skills in ideas generation, writing proposals, project management and budget control as a means of successfully fulfilling the clients’ requests and target audience expectations.
At Levels 4 and 5, you will develop an understanding of the production process, working on corporate projects, music promos, adverts and stings, develop your business skills and learn to work in the technical and creative roles of film/video production. Residential field trips and visits to advertising and production companies, form a major part of the course and are coordinated throughout Levels 4, 5 and 6.
At Level 6 you produce up to three major productions for real clients, in negotiation with the academic staff and industry. We encourage external contact through working on live projects with local and national organisations, charities, competitions and companies.
Where next
Graduates from this course will leave with a professional and business centred approach to media production and be able to seek employment in a variety of sectors of the media industry; in television, advertising, radio, education and training, as well as a range of other film, video and audio production and post-production companies, including self employment and new businesses.
