Making an impact at the Oscars

Peter Bebb, a former MA Computing in Design student at Staffordshire University, has picked up both a BAFTA and an Oscar for his visual effects work on sci-fi action movie, Inception.

After graduating from Staffordshire University in 1998, Peter went straight to work at leading London Special Effects company, Double Negative, where he now holds the post of Computer Graphics Supervisor.

It was the VFX work completed on the corporate espionage film, Inception, which first secured the BAFTA, followed by Oscars for Peter and his team at the Kodak Theatre, Los Angeles, on Sunday, 27 February 2011.

Helping shape the success of our VFX graduates

“We are delighted for Peter and extremely proud of the considerable success he has enjoyed since graduating from our Faculty of Arts, Media and Design,” comments Award Leader, Huw Thomas.

“Perhaps most of all,” he added, “we are pleased that Peter has stayed in close contact with Staffordshire University, helping shape our BA(Hons) Visual Effects and Concept Design degree.

“Along with other team members from Double Negative, Peter has also provided Staffordshire University Visual Effects students with valuable guidance in shaping their showreels. This kind of advice, from someone who is clearly at the top of their game, is priceless for students looking to make their mark across the film and game industries.”

A pedigree of blockbuster successes

In addition to Inception, Peter Bebb’s credited work includes: Prince of Persia, Inkheart, The Dark Knight, The Bourne Ultimatum, Hot Fuzz, World Trade Center, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, Doom, Batman Begins, The Chronicles of Riddick, Ella Enchanted, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Die Another Day, Below, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, The Tailor of Panama, Enemy at the Gates, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and Pitch Black.
